Aspiring young Hunter Valley winemaker, Jacob Wiseman, was announced as the recipient of the 2016 Scholarship at the annual Trevor Drayton Scholarship fundraising lunch. Twenty four year old Jacob was presented with his $5,000 scholarship by Trevor’s mother, Caroline Drayton, in front of more than 100 guests at Carrington Place Bar & Restaurant on Sunday February 7th .
Jacob has been immersed in wine culture since his early days with both of his parents having worked in the Hunter Valley for many years. He began his career at First Creek wines in the Hunter before gaining further experience at Mud Creek wines in New Zealand.
On returning to Australia he joined Keith Tulloch Wines where he is currently employed. Jacob is also well on his way to completing a Bachelor of Wine Science degree at Charles Sturt University and in 2014 started his own boutique label, Wise One Wines.
Jacob explained in his scholarship application that should he be successful in being awarded some scholarship funds, he would use the money to help him travel and gain experience in some of the most famous wines regions in the world, including Burgundy and Bordeaux. With the support of the Scholarship he now plans to travel late in 2016 and use the trip to further his knowledge of winemaking, including traditional French wines pinot and chardonnay.
Jacob hopes to one day own his own small winery selling boutique-style wines, and plans to get back into producing more wine for his personal label again next year.
